Tommy Lee has plunged into the immersive world of Dolby Atmos to breathe fresh life into his storied solo work.
The Motley Crue drummer revisited his 2005 album Tommyland: The Ride, which originally peaked at No. 62 on the Billboard 200, and transformed it into a vibrant, spatially mixed experience that places listeners inside the chaos of his creative universe. The project highlights his ongoing passion for evolving soundscapes and engaging new generations of fans through cutting edge production methods that enhance every beat and melody.
"A couple years ago, my kids were tripping out and like, ‘Dad, you gotta re-release this,’ ’cause it was 20 years since it came out," Tommy Lee, Motley Crue drummer, said.
The result, titled Tommyland Rides Again, arrives digitally May 22, 2026 as an expanded edition featuring the new track "Stupid World" with Chad Tepper. Additional production touches bring renewed energy to classic tracks while maintaining the raw spirit of the original recordings.
Guest appearances from Chad Kroeger, Joel Madden, Nick Carter, Deryck Whibley, Dave Navarro, Andrew McMahon and Carl Bell add new layers to the material, which will finally reach streaming platforms and vinyl for the first time. These collaborations underscore the album's lasting influence across rock and pop circles.
Lee described how the technology pulled him deeper into the process.
"I learned the process, and once you hear Dolby Atmos, it’s insane. I’ll never listen to regular stereo again. And now we’re going down the rabbit hole and I’m remixing anything," Tommy Lee, Motley Crue drummer, explained. The spatial audio format allows instruments and vocals to move dynamically around the listener creating an engaging concert like atmosphere at home.
He has already begun applying the same techniques across the entire Motley Crue catalog. This approach promises richer listening experiences for longtime supporters and newcomers alike as the band continues its storied legacy.
The band hits the road July 17 through September 25, 2026, celebrating both the 20th anniversary of the Carnival of Sins tour and the group’s 45th year together. Fans can look forward to dynamic setlists that blend timeless hits with fresh sonic interpretations drawn from these recent studio experiments.
Concertgoers can expect the same high-voltage performances that have defined Lee’s career, now paired with the sonic upgrades he discovered while remixing his past. The integration of advanced mixing techniques elevates live shows and recorded material ensuring the music resonates powerfully in modern formats.
